HABITAT AWARD

Posted: 2004-02-12
On February 12, 2004, the Montgomery County Common Pleas Court - Division of Criminal Justice Services was presented with a special award from Habitat for Humanity International by local affiliate Executive Director Frank Gorman. The award recognized the court for supporting the construction of fourteen Habitat for Humanity homes in 2003, the largest number in the affiliate’s history. During 2003, more than 300 offenders on supervision to the court provided more than 5,500 hours of volunteer service to Habitat, some volunteering to work weekends in addition to their regularly scheduled times. In presenting the award, Mr. Gorman acknowledged that Habitat could not have accomplished what it did in 2003 without the assistance of the offenders provided by the court. The offenders, who have been ordered to perform Community Service Work as part of their sentences, are able to give something positive back to the community, and learn work skills and habits at the same time. The General Division Community Service Work program is directed and managed by Gregg Hoertt.
